Thrown right into the mix is Afro’s Chicken Shack. A refurbished shipping container painted bright yellow and situated on the infamous Durban Promenade. The promenade itself has gained a bad rap in recent times, but the arrival of Afro’s has somewhat kicked a revival into 5th gear.
Afro’s epitomizes the idea of street food, boasting a clean cut and straight forward menu. Whether it’s a post-surf egg and bacon roll at a measly R20 or a grilled chicken burger/or strips (hot or not) with a side of chips and coleslaw for R39 served in a tin bowl eaten while soaking in the sea view, this yellow container offers a unique food experience. To top it off, they’ll give you a Champion toffee if you take your plate back once you’ve motored through your meal. So be a good dude and clean up after yourself.
Afro’s has since opened a number of outlets and has become a force to be reckoned with not only as a “street food” outlet, but as a restaurant fully immersed in the Durban Food Scene.
